Project Prahari began in 2021 and has been one of my life's most fulfilling and challenging experiences. The organisation aims to provide acid attack survivors with skilling opportunities and secure employment while building safe workspaces for them. So far, I've had the privilege of impacting the lives of over 30 acid attack warriors, helping them regain their confidence and sense of independence through training and job placements. Some have even used our programs as a stepping stone to pursue further opportunities and shape their futures.
The inspiration for *Project Prahari* came from conversations with a few survivors working at my mother's house. They spoke about the hardships they faced, particularly around low confidence and illiteracy, which made it difficult for them to find employment. One survivor mentioned how society often fails to recognise the unique challenges that survivors of acid attacks face, especially when it comes to jobs and sensitisation around their disability. This conversation moved me deeply, and I realised that something had to be done to bridge this gap and empower this community.
Starting the program wasn't the logistical challenges of finding partners willing to support and employ survivors, raising awareness, and gaininggainicommunityty'santny survivors initially hesitated to participate due to low self-esteem and fear of societal rejection. However, overcoming these barriers has been immensely rewarding. The personal stories of strength and resilience that I've experienced are more about humanity, compassion, and perseverance than any other experience.
Through *Project Prahari*, I've realised that it is about providing opportunities for listening and understanding and creating an environment where people feel safe and valued. The project has taught me the importance of inclusivity, patience, and the need to raise awareness about disabilities and sensitisation in workplaces.
The journey has been filled with challenges, but each step forward has reinforced my belief in the power of giving back. Witnessing these brave individuals reclaim their confidence and take control of their futures has been a heartwarming and humbling experience.
Thanks to my work, I have also been recognised by various channels. I also have an
